TFMoran Installs Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

Marty Gavin, one of TFMoran’s survey technicians, installed an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) at the TFMoran-Bedford office. It is located on the first floor in the central hallway between the civil engineering and survey departments.

TFMoran obtained this life-saving medical device via the State of New Hampshire’s “AED Direct Purchase Opportunity”. Bill Wood, Preparedness & Special Projects NHFST & EMS gave a presentation to our safety committee explaining the options available and their use.  The committee chose the defibrillator “LifeLine” sold by Defibtech, LLC.

Bill provided our Bedford employees with a complimentary “AED Orientation Session” on May 11th. The session covered the medical/legal protections, a review, and demonstration of the equipment. According to the American Heart Association , “An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a lightweight, portable device that delivers an electric shock through the chest to the heart. The shock can potentially stop an irregular heart beat (arrhythmia) and allow a normal rhythm to resume following sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). SCA occurs when the heart malfunctions and stops beating unexpectedly. If not treated within minutes, it quickly leads to death.”

Colorful Tulips & Daffodils spring up at TFMoran’s Bedford Office

Thanks to Professional Landscape Architect, Anne Cruess, ASLA and son Galen, TFMoran’s Bedford office has a lot of spring color! They planted bulbs all around the bark mulched grounds surrounding the office and entrance. And, after a long winter, spring has finally sprung and TFMoran now has eye-candy…..groups of pink, red, orange and yellow tulips, along with yellow and white daffodils. Thanks Anne and Galen!

TFMoran Part of Land Rover Redevelopment Team

Bedford, NH – TFMoran is part of a New Hampshire-based design-build project team providing services for Land Rover’s new facility on South River Road (U.S. Route 3). The team also includes Warrenstreet Architects of Concord and Eckman Construction of Bedford.

The construction of the new facility is underway and will be completed in the fall of 2018.

TFMoran supplied civil/site/traffic and structural engineering, permitting, and landscape architecture services for the new 19,200sf auto showroom and state-of-the-art service area. The architecture of the proposed dealership is contemporary in nature with aluminum composite cladding in a dark grey and a champagne silver. The structure will include very prominent floor-to-ceiling plenar glass windows to display the interior showroom.

The window facing South River Road will extend approximately 61 feet or approximately 44% of the building façade. Although the contemporary design is unique for Bedford, the project team engaged the board with a detailed discussion related to the proposed architecture, and the board expressed comfort with the proposed design in light of landscaping improvements proposed.

TFMoran’s professional landscape architect, Mike Krzeminski, explained the landscape will highlight and complement the architecture of the building, while also balancing the town’s landscape standards.

“Blending corporate design standards with municipal expectations is a delicate balance especially in a town like Bedford where they have specific architectural preferences,” said TFMoran Senior Project Manager Nick Golon, PE. “In the end, both the town and project team found an appropriate balance that will deliver an exceptional project everyone can be proud of,” continued Golon.

TFMoran senior structural engineer, Joaquín Denoya, PE described the custom steel truss above glass storefront facing South River Road. “The exterior wall above the glass was designed as an 8-ft by 6-ft deep custom steel truss cladded with metal panels. The concept of supporting the roof framing on a clear spanning truss allowed for the design team to achieve a column-free look within the showroom,” explains Denoya.

TFMoran Project on April’s Cover of ASCE NH Newsletter

TFMoran is the Corporate Sponsor of the Month for the American Society of Civil Engineers New Hampshire Section‘s newsletter, New Hampshire Civil Engineer. The April issue’s cover photo is a TFMoran civil engineering project that is currently under construction in downtown Nashua, NH, Residences at Riverfront Landing. The photo was taken via drone, courtesy SMC Management Corporation, and shows two of the three residential apartment buildings; a 7,200sf two-story restaurant/retail store; and a one-story 3,390sf community center. TFMoran also provided permitting and landscape architecture services for this 228-unit residence located off of Bridge Street along the Merrimack/Nashua River. The project architect is DeStefano Architects of Portsmouth, NH and Fulcrum Associates of Amherst, NH is providing construction management.

TFMoran structural engineers donate services for the 2018 Building on Hope project

TFMoran is proud to be part of the Building on Hope project team. TFMoran’s structural engineers donated services to the project architect Warrenstreet Architects of Concord, NH, to help the Building on Hope project makeover of the Crisis Center of Central NH get under way. “Every two years, Building on Hope rallies hundreds of volunteers to complete a weeklong, community-supported renovation of a nonprofit facility,” according to the organization’s website. “In the past eight years, Building on Hope has completed $3.6 million in work for organizations including Girls Inc., Easterseals, Opportunity Networks and the Manchester Police Athletic League. ” Building on Hope’s motto is “many hands make light work.” Please lend a hand to this important cause.

Complete makeover, expansion planned for Crisis Center of Central NH

The volunteer nonprofit organization Building on Hope is looking for help in the form of skilled labor and donations to tackle its next project: the $500,000 renovation of the Crisis Center of Central New Hampshire in Concord.

The center, known as CCCNH, is the only agency exclusively dedicated to working with survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Merrimack County. In 2017, it served 1,184 people, answered 4,950 hotline calls and provided 2,991 bed nights. Its building is old with outdated systems, an inefficient floor plan and a kitchen and bathrooms appropriate for a family of four, not for a shelter that regularly houses 13 women and children, said organizers. The renovation will nearly double the facility’s size from four bedrooms with 13 beds to seven bedrooms with 24 beds.

Already, hundreds of businesses and individuals have signed on from all over the state, but additional help is needed to ensure the project, which begins with a May 11 groundbreaking and concludes with a reveal day celebration on May 20, runs smoothly, organizers said.

“This is our fifth renovation project, and each year I am blown away with how members of the local community and beyond step up to help in any way that they can,” said Jonathan Halle, co-chair of Building on Hope. “With the groundbreaking just a few weeks out, there are still materials and volunteers we need to provide skilled labor during Build Week in May.”

Halle said Building on Hope is seeking skilled carpenters, painters, flooring installers, plumbing and HVAC technicians, electricians and general laborers to donate their time Week. TFMoran is Celebrating Administrative Professionals Day April 25th

TFMoran is celebrating Administrative Professionals Day by acknowledging and thanking our receptionist Jennifer Clark with a beautiful flower arrangement by PJs Flowers. Jenn joined the team in May 2017, she’s the friendly face upon entering the office, greeting TFMoran visitors and staff.  She’s responsible for directing all incoming calls to our nearly 50 engineers, surveyors, landscape architects, and administration staff.  We can always count on Jenn to bring her A-game, whenever someone in the office needs something done. She types proposals, abutters lists and meeting notes; orders all the office supplies; arranges shipments to send out client’s plans; arranges the company’s Lunch-and-Learns along with ordering the food, setting up, and more. Jenn keeps the office running smoothly and on schedule.

Thank you Jenn for all that you do, and we extend our appreciation far beyond Administration Professionals Day!

TFMoran beautifies Manchester WWII Memorial grounds in Veterans Park for “Adopt-A-Block” Earth Day event

It’s that time of year again, Adopt-A-Block! For the third consecutive year, TFMoran employees participated in the annual InTown Manchester’s Adopt-A-Block event, which is a neighborhood cleanup in support of Earth Day. Intown Manchester Management, Inc. is a non-profit organization working, in cooperation with the City of Manchester, to increase downtown’s competitiveness and to affirm Manchester’s position as an economic leader of the New England region.  Their service areas include outdoor maintenance, beautification, and business support through marketing, communications, and event production.

This year TFMoran’s own Dylan Cruess, Cassi Beroney, Nick Golon, Jeff Tate, Maureen Kelly, Matt Mullen and Rob Vida participated in the event by picking up litter, raking and spreading bark mulch around the WWII Memorial in Veterans Park. This downtown Manchester Memorial is special to TFMoran, since the company donated survey, site design and landscape architecture services when it was first constructed.  This event brings local businesses and community members together to get outside and beautify Manchester neighborhoods, all while keeping the earth clean. Participants of the event also enjoyed a slice of pizza or two donated by 900 Degrees, one of downtown Manchester’s favorite restaurants.

This year, InTown teamed up with Eversource in the hopes of expanding their reach and attempt to grow the volunteer base. It was another successful year of keeping Manchester “clean and green”. Thanks to InTown Manchester for coordinating and hosting such a great event!

Red Nose Day – TFMoran helps in fighting child poverty

TFMoran will be celebrating Red Nose Day on May 24th, 2018, along with Walgreens, the official retailer of the red nose! The national charitable event brings attention to child poverty around the globe. Starting April 2nd, for $1, a Red Nose, along with other Red Nose merchandise, can be purchased at your local Walgreens. TFMoran’s COO, Dylan Cruess and daughter Cate didn’t waste any time getting their Red Nose, and took a selfie to help create awareness of this special fundraising event. Half the money will be donated to one of the many charities Walgreens supports, such as Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Save the Children, and Feeding America. Red Nose Day was created by Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning writer-director Richard Curtis (Love Actually) and has raised $1 billion globally since its launch 30 years ago in the U.K. in 1988. One of the major charities that influenced Red Nose Day is Comic Relief. Comic Relief is an organization that launched in 1985 to raise money to address poverty and social injustice throughout the world through the use of comedy and laughter. The event is held every two years as a U.K fundraising event, and it encourages people to wear a red nose and act silly to help raise money.

Nearly 1/3 of the world’s population, more than three billion people, have less than $2.50 to live on for one day. One billion children worldwide are living in poverty, and nearly 22,000 children die every day because of it.

Since beginning the campaign in 2015, Walgreens has helped raise awareness and donate to child poverty. They have helped raise over 100 million dollars and helped more than eight million children living in poverty.   $1 gives a child a nutritious meal, while $10 gives entire classroom textbooks. NBC will be broadcasting an all day campaign dedicated to the event that includes a special edition of American Ninja Warrior.

TFMoran on Design Team for One Newport Ave.

Quincy, MA – KFP Architects of Hingham, Mass., and TFMoran of Bedford, N.H., provided architectural and structural engineering services for the new construction of a six-story, multifamily residential building. The project is located on Newport Avenue, between West Squantum and Arlington streets in Quincy, Mass.

Demolition of the existing industrial building is expected to occur early spring 2018, with foundation work slated for mid-to-late spring 2018. The general contractor, RESKON Group, expects an overall completion of this new apartment building for fall 2019.

Developed by Arista Development, the new apartment building will include four stories, approximately 80,000sf of 80 residential units over two stories and approximately 50,000sf of above-grade, open parking space.

Located within the footprint of an existing industrial building that is to be demolished, soil conditions were determined to consist of granular urban fill over a former marsh deposit of organic silt. Traditionally, these conditions would not be suitable for shallow spread footing foundations. Instead, in conjunction with Terracon Consultants, soil improvement techniques such as aggregate piers and stone columns were considered to help provide a suitable bearing surface for shallow foundations while keeping foundation costs to a minimum.

The superstructure itself is considered “podium” style, consisting of woodframed residential levels over concrete slabs on steel framing at the parking levels. A mix of one- and two-story units will be provided with ample parking, elevated patio spaces, spacious exercise and meeting rooms, and a roof deck overlooking the Quincy Bay.
