TFMoran Celebrates 50 Years at the Annual Harvest Lunch

TFMoran celebrated the holiday season with our Annual Harvest Lunch on November 21, 2018. The Company also celebrated our 50th year in business. TFMoran staff from the Bedford and Portsmouth offices met at the Bedford Village Inn to give thanks for another great year and enjoy some good food and beverages with coworkers. Prior to the event, company photos to commemorate the 50th year, were taken by Studio One photographer, John Gauvin.

The venue was beautiful in the Great Hall, as the Bedford Village Inn recently decorated for the holiday season. Floral centerpieces created by TFMoran’s Maryanne Murray, with help from Susan Bartley, added to the harvest-theme décor. Upon arrival, TFM staff socialized while enjoying a variety of healthy appetizers and holiday beverages from the bar. Then, all were treated to the delicious main course of salad, a lovely squash soup, steak, chicken, and roasted vegetables. Following the meal, a white raspberry-filled 50th Anniversary cake made by Frederick’s Pastries, was served to the enjoyment of all.

TFMoran president Bob Duval addressed the staff by congratulating the company and its employees on the 50 years in business and for another great year. Bob took a moment to recognize those who had been with TFMoran for more than 10 years (some over 30 years) and thanked them for their service. TFMoran’s COO, Dylan Cruess, then spoke to the staff about upcoming benefit news, such as health insurance, the 401k program and other benefits. In appreciation of everyone’s dedication to the Company, holiday bonuses were handed out to all by the five TFMoran principals.

A special thanks to the Bedford Village Inn for hosting the event and creating such a lovely atmosphere for this special occasion. It was a great send off to Thanksgiving holiday weekend, as we gave thanks for our clients, our TFM team, friends and family.

CPR Training at TFMoran

Members of the Bedford TFMoran team participated in a CPR certification course on November 14, 2018. Participants met in the first-floor conference room, where the training was held. Many of the attendees had been certified in the past and were taking the course as a refresher course. The course covered CPR trainings for all ages including adults, children, and infants. The certification class was taught by Robert Martin, who works with Exeter Hospital. The class was broken into two parts. Participants watched informational videos during the first portion of the class, and during the second part were able to practice the techniques on training mannequins.  The informational videos, provided by the American Heart Association, explained how to determine if a person needs CPR, the number of breaths and compressions necessary to properly perform CPR, how to properly perform these compressions and breaths, and how to use an AED, or Automated External Defibrillator. The Bedford office installed an AED in May through a New Hampshire Department of Safety program, which offers a discount and training for participants. There was also a portion of the training dedicated to helping someone who is choking and properly performing the Heimlich maneuver. Of course, we hope that all in attendance never need to use the techniques learned today, but we are glad that our team members are educated and would be able to provide assistants in an emergency.

TFMoran at NH Municipal Expo Nov 14-15, 2018

TFMoran is participating in the 77th Annual New Hampshire Municipal Conference and Expo on November 14th and 15th of 2018. The event, hosted by the New Hampshire Municipal Association, is taking place at the DoubleTree by Hilton in downtown Manchester (formerly the Radisson Hotel). The keynote speaker is Rebecca Rule, who is a well-known author and entertainer and currently hosts “Our Hometown” on NHPTV. She has entertained many audiences with her humorous tales of life in New Hampshire. The theme of this year’s conference is “Sharing Ideas: Shaping the Future.”

The Expo gives businesses an opportunity to present their ideas and projects to a group of their colleagues. Booths are laid out in a grid system, with street names and numbers posted to help attendees find the booths that interest them. TFMoran’s booth is number 310 on Oak Street. Our booth displays some of the most recent municipal projects, such as the renovations and additions for the Newmarket Junior/High School and Elementary School, and the new Warner Fire and Rescue Station, both currently under construction. TFMoran’s engineers are on-hand to answer any questions from the many visitors stopping by to check out our municipal projects from all around the state.

The two-day conference offers many informative sessions, with topics such as Cybercrime and Fraud, Land Use Law Updates, and Effective Uses of Mediation. As always, we are happy to attend the expo and look forward to seeing familiar faces and discussing our municipal projects.

TFMoran sponsors SNHU Penmen for Patriots 5k to help NH Veterans

TFMoran once again showed support for the Southern New Hampshire University “Penmen for Patriots 5k” by sponsoring the road race. This annual event, held on November 3, 2018, supported Veterans Count, a program of Easterseals which “provide resources and services to veterans, service members and their families. Easterseals Military and Veterans Services, in conjunction with Veterans Count, developed a one-of-a-kind program which has a proven track record of helping service members and their families with a wide range of family, personal and financial needs.”

The rainy weather wasn’t enough to discourage supporters from running the race which took place on the beautiful SNHU Manchester/Hooksett campus. TFMoran’s Jenn Clark, Maureen Kelly, Shaun Vando, Jeff Tate, Dylan Cruess along with his daughter Cate, all participated to show their support for a great cause.

Other supporting companies included Able Ebenezer Brewing Company, who provided a free beer to all participants over the age of 21, for a well-deserved post-5k beverage. American Flatbread Company provided pizza; Coca Cola of Northern New England provided nonalcoholic refreshments, while Stonyfield Organic brought yogurt to the event to help runners fuel up before the race. The first 400 registrants also received complimentary long sleeve shirts, as a memento. Thanks to all the local sponsors for making this a fun-filled, successful event for such a worthy program.

TFM takes a break for a little Halloween fun

Spider webs wrapped around the stairwell and bats flew around a black light lit ceiling. Glow sticks and candy scattered the tables while strobe lights flashed through the mirrors.  Spooky creatures like spiders, ghosts and haunted pumpkins filled the TFMoran lobby, creatively decorated by receptionist Jenn Clark. Friday October 26th was the perfect day for a company Halloween party. The ghost busters theme song played through the speakers as the staff enjoyed Puritan’s famous chicken tenders along with an assortment of other delicious foods. And, thanks to Maryanne Murray for making her festive witch’s finger and spider cookies.

Games were played and laughs were had. After a week of voting “how many pieces of candy corn are in the jar”, Shaun Vando came closest guessing 795, just 9 pieces short of the actual count of 804. Dylan Cruess took the win for the first ever pumpkin toss, beating out anyone who dared challenge him. After competing against multiple coworkers, Adam Jimenez also managed to come out on top as the winner for the Pumpkin Strongman. Many employees came dressed in their best Halloween costumes hoping to win two tickets to Haunted Acres. Although all the costumes were  excellent, Jeff Tate was voted number one as he sported a cow costume.

October ground breaking event held for Franklin Savings Bank in Goffstown, NH

After being postponed for a few weeks, due to heavy rains, the ceremonial ground breaking event for the new Franklin Savings Bank in Goffstown, NH took place on a sunny Friday, October 5, 2018. More than a dozen key people involved in the project lined up with shiny new shovels, ready to dig in for the official ground breaking photo. Included in the photo were FSB’s president and several from the FSB leadership team, town officials, and representatives from Paramount Partners, Sullivan Construction and TFMoran.

Construction has all ready begun for the new 2,161 square foot branch office located on Mast Road in the Pinardville area, and is expected to be complete in February 2019. The bank will be part of Abingdon Square, a mixed-use development designed by TFMoran that currently includes a Rite Aid pharmacy and workforce housing. The bank will feature two drive-up lanes, a smart ATM and technology bar. This will be the eighth full-service location, and the third office in southern New Hampshire.

The FSB project team includes Paramount Partners of Quincy, MA, DeStefano Architects of Portsmouth, Sullivan Construction of Bedford, NH and TFMoran. TFMoran provided land surveying, civil engineering, structural engineering, traffic engineering, permitting and landscape architecture services for the project. This is the second bank project for this team, the first was the FSB in Merrimack, NH completed in 2017.

TFMoran Projects on display at the 30th Annual 2018 Tri-City Expo

The Tri-City Expo. An event where the three Greater Chamber of Commerce of Concord, Manchester, and Nashua, NH come together for a yearly tradition of businesses coming together to network and show off exactly what they do. There were nearly 200 exhibitors, attracting over 1,200 attendees. Admission was free and the general public was welcomed to walk through and engage with the people representing their businesses with any questions they may have! The 30th Tri-City Expo was held Thursday, September 27th at the NH Expo Center at The Manchester Downtown Hotel.

TFMoran had a festive fall-themed booth, including a big pumpkin displaying the TFM logo, painted by TFMoran’s receptionist Jenn Clark. Multiple civil and structural engineers staffed the booth representing the company through out the afternoon and evening. TFMoran was also the only engineering company participating in the expo and showed off many of our latest projects within the Tri-City region! It wasn’t all business however, during the Expo you could visit The Bistro to enjoy a variety of food and drink samples from local restaurants. That wasn’t all, there were companies giving out free chair massages!

2nd Annual Fulcrum Charity Golf Classic is a Win Win!

Both TFMoran’s Dylan Cruess and Dan Blais took their skills to the green for the 2nd annual Fulcrum charity golf classic. This charity was in support of the New Hampshire Food Bank raising money for families across the state in need. The tournament was held at the beautiful Manchester Country Club on September 10th, 2018 with lunch and dinner being provided for the golfers. Although the sky was filled with clouds and had an occasional drizzle, they golfed on and completed all 18 holes. But playing the course wasn’t the only win. Throughout the day, golfers had an opportunity to win a wide range of contests and raffles as well! If you didn’t want to register as a golfer for $250 a participant, there was still an option to sponsor this event from $150 to $1,500.

The winners of the golf classic walked away with orange jackets marking their achievement. Unfortunately, TFMoran did not come in first but being able to help feed thousands of local families, neighbors, children and people we walk with every day is truly our real triumph.

Plan NH Annual Golf Tournament raises funds to benefit NH communities

As the fog rolled in, Dylan Cruess of TFMoran would be out on the Canterbury Woods Golf Course playing despite the weather. Dylan took on his second charity golf tournament on September 12th, 2018 for Plan NH. Proceeds from the annual golf classic are going towards providing financial support and recognition to students from New Hampshire who are studying in the field that reflect Plan NH’s mission. The mission being. making this state’s neighborhoods, healthy and beautiful communities to live in. Alongside the registration, breakfast was provided as well as lunch following the tournament!

Understanding Stormwater Best Management Practices

Stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs) are an important part of site designs to control the volume and quality of stormwater runoff. Projects go through review and permitting at the local and state level to ensure the requirements of the Clean Water Act are being observed. Once a project is completed, these practices require routine inspection and maintenance to insure they are working properly.

Recently the NHDES sent letters to permitees of the state Alteration of Terrain program reminding them of the permit requirement for documentation of their Operation & Maintenance program for stormwater BMPs. The first component of an effective program is performing routine inspections of the practices. Here in the northeast, at least two inspections annually are recommended:

An inspection of all Stormwater BMPs should be performed after leaf drop in the fall to ensure the inlets and outlets of catch basins, swales, ponds and the surfaces of infiltration practices are free from leaf matter that can clog the inlets, outlets, or infiltration surfaces and cause a malfunction. A second inspection should be performed after snow melt in the spring to determine if there is erosion of slopes or accumulation of sediment in catch basin sumps (from parking lot sanding operations in the winter for example).

The TFMoran Stormwater Compliance Group performs Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan inspections and stormwater discharge of stormwater BMPs during construction, as well as bi-annual inspections of practices after construction has been completed.
