TFMoran is Celebrating World Landscape Architecture Month

This week, TFMoran is celebrating World Landscape Architecture Month! World Landscape Architecture Month is the month long celebration of landscape architecture and designed public and private spaces. Established by the American Society of Landscape Architecture, WLAM aims to demonstrate how landscape architecture affects our daily lives. WLAM is celebrated every April to coincide with Earth Day.

TFMoran’s Landscape Architecture Department consists of Michael Krzeminski, PLA; Adam Jimenez and Robert Hoover, PLA, ASLA who spend their days designing TFMoran projects, including adding those special “curb-appeal” details.

Michael Krzeminski, PLAMichael Krzeminski, PLA, is a Professional Landscape Architect licensed in the states of NH, MA and ME. He attended State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Association with Syracuse University and has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Landscape Architecture. Mike joined TFMoran in 1995 as an Assistant Land Planner/Designer and is now a key member of the TFM Design team. He has an extensive knowledge of plant materials and design principles, which enables him to creatively solve design problems. His role at TFMoran starts at the conceptual stage and continues through project completion. Mike is responsible for planting plans, specifications and construction overview. His experience includes high-quality conceptual designs and renderings of commercial, industrial, and residential developments. He has been the lead Landscape Architect at TFMoran for 3 years and has a passion for the work that he does.

Adam Jimenez, Land PlannerAdam Jimenez has a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Rhode Island and joined the TFM Design team in 2016. He is an Assistant Land Planner and is working towards getting his landscape architecture license. His design experience includes commercial and residential land planning. Prior to joining the company, Adam was employed at a local company designing and installing hardscapes and softscapes for commercial and residential applications.

Robert Hoover, PLA, ASLARobert Hoover, PLA, ASLA, is a Professional Landscape Architect licensed in the states of NH, MA, ME, CT, NY, RI and PA. He serves as a Project Manager in TFMoran’s Portsmouth division since joining the company in 2017. Rob has over 40 years of experience in the practice of Landscape Architecture, specializing in designing with nature as a therapeutic, restorative, healing medium. He has personally designed over 100 built “nature as restorer” projects. Rob has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Design from the University of Massachusetts and his Masters Degree from Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He has over 35 years of professional experience in the practice of Landscape Architecture. Rob founded HBLA Inc. in 2001 and maintained the company for 15 years. Based on his pioneering efforts, in 2001 Rob was invited to participate in the establishment of Chicago Botanic Gardens flagship Healthcare Design Program. This program remains the only advanced certificate program of its kind in the country.  Rob continues his involvement as faculty and program adviser to this day.  He is recognized nationally as a leader and pioneer in this field, receiving over 50 awards and special recognition including national publication and international exhibitions.  He is published, taught numerous classes and lectured throughout the country.

During this celebratory Landscape Architecture Month, a different ASLA student chapter will take over the ASLA National Instagram account each day, highlighting projects of the next generation of landscape architects. TFMoran has also posted on their own Instagram account to acknowledge the hard work that their landscape architects do to make our projects even more attractive.

Ribbon cutting at Trader Joe’s at Market and Main

Doors to the new Trader Joe’s in Bedford, NH opened on Friday morning, March 29, 2019 after the official red ribbon was cut. The first official customer was Grace Freire, who was followed by a long-line of excited shoppers. The Trader Joe’s crew were lined up inside the door to welcome shoppers and hand out a complimentary reusable bag custom-designed for “Live Free” New Hampshire. The colorful bags had illustrations of the state flower, and an apple, along with a recipe for New Hampshire Maple Sundae from the kitchen of Trader Joe’s. The interior walls of the grocery store are also custom to New Hampshire with beautiful painted illustrations reflecting some of the state’s treasured places.

TFMoran’s president Robert Duval, project manager Chris Rice, and marketing coordinator Susan Bartley were honored to attend the ribbon-cutting with Market and Main developer Terry Robinson of Encore Enterprises and Trader Joe’s Director of Construction, Lisa Robertson. Trader Joe’s is the first retail store to open in the new 350,000sf space upscale mixed-use center “Market and Main”, located off of South River Road (US Route 3) at the former Macy’s site. This one story, 13,000 sf± national food chain store is the third to open in New Hampshire. TFMoran provided civil/site and traffic engineering, permitting, land surveying, landscape architectural, stormwater monitoring and construction support services for Encore Enterprises.  Additionally, TFMoran provided structural design for a two-level parking deck which is connected to the retail building. The project architect is Prellwitz Chilinski Associates and the construction manager is Hutter Construction of New Ipswich, NH. Site construction began for the development in March 2017.

(Market and Main mixed-use center is designed to be a pedestrian-friendly place with a village green and pocket parks throughout. Plans include a 1,200-seat deluxe cinema, an office building, a hotel, a variety of vibrant restaurants and retail shops, and two parking garages.)

Construction is well under way at Woodmont Commons

Construction is well-underway for the first two building projects in Phase I at Woodmont Commons in Londonderry, NH. A new 4-story, 87-unit apartment building with 23,000sf of retail space on the first floor is being constructed by Performance Building Company. The architect of record is Shook Kelley with Gavin and Sullivan Architects providing additional design services for various projects within Phase I.  Also, under construction is a new 17,000sf brewery and 200-seat restaurant with indoor/outdoor dining. 603 Brewery was designed by McHenry Architecture, and is being built by Harvey Construction. TFMoran provided civil and structural engineering services for both buildings.

Woodmont Commons is a new mixed-use development designed to be an urban village-style, walkable community in the rural countryside on over 600 acres. This unique multi-phased development is located off of I-93 Exit 4 and will include housing, retail stores, restaurants, office space and amenities. TFMoran is working with Pillsbury Realty Development in providing civil and site engineering services, which included Michels Way, a new road connecting Garden Lane and Pillsbury Road. The architect of record Shook Kelley of Charlotte, NC helped prepare the Planned Unit Development (PUD) overall Master Plan. Attorney Ari Pollack of Gallagher, Callahan & Gartrell provided legal work for permitting and contracts for the development.

Franklin Savings Bank opens a new branch at Abingdon Square in Goffstown

TFMoran’s Project Manager Jason Hill, PE and Dylan Cruess, COO attended the ribbon-cutting event for the new Franklin Savings Bank in Goffstown, NH on March 21, 2019.  The new 2,161 square foot branch office is located at Abingdon Square, a mixed-use development designed by TFMoran that currently includes a Rite Aid pharmacy and NeighborWorks® Southern New Hampshire workforce housing. The bank features two drive-up lanes, a smart ATM and technology bar. This is the eighth full-service location, and the third office in southern New Hampshire.

The FSB project team included Paramount Partners of Quincy, MA, DeStefano Architects of Portsmouth, Sullivan Construction of Bedford, NH and TFMoran. TFMoran provided civil engineering, structural engineering, traffic engineering, permitting and landscape architecture services for the project. This is the second bank project for this team, the first was the FSB in Merrimack, NH completed in 2017.

TFM Team Places Second at 18th Annual Champagne Putt

The SEE Science Center, located in the millyard district of Manchester, New Hampshire, hosted their 18th Annual Fred Kfoury Jr Memorial Champagne Putt on March 7th, 2019. The mini-golf tournament featured 18 science-themed holes, including one two-story hole. Participants enjoyed a fun-filled evening with plenty of food, beverages, contests, raffles and a silent auction, all for a great cause to benefit the programs of the SEE Science Center.

TFMoran’s fantastic foursome Dan Blais, Eric Salavitch, Tom Burns and Marty Gavin (pictured above left to right) tied for second in the tournament with a score of 33. That’s pretty darn good considering they were competing with over 30 teams! Congratulations!

TFMoran meets Engineering Students at UNH Career Fair

Structural Engineers Kyle Roy, PE and Eric Picard, PE represented TFMoran at the University of New Hampshire Spring Career & Internship Fair on February 26th, 2019. Held at the Whittemore Center, the career fair gives UNH students of all majors an opportunity to meet with potential future employers and practice their interviewing skills. Kyle and Eric set up the TFMoran booth, where they met with students to discuss what it’s like to work for TFMoran. The Career Fair was a big success with over 200 companies participating, and many potential candidates to fill both full-time and internship positions.

A big Thank You to UNH for putting on this very organized and energized event.  Best wishes to all the students seeking a position in their field.

Fun Fact: TFMoran currently employees 14 Civil/Structural Engineers who attended the University of New Hampshire!

BOB Awards Recognize TFMoran for the 7th Consecutive Year

TFMoran is proud to announce that New Hampshire Business Review has recognized TFMoran for a 2019 Best Of Business (BOB) Award, resulting from a survey taken by their readers. More than 4,400 ballots were cast in over 90 business-to-business categories to recognize the best companies in New Hampshire. The New Hampshire Business Review has now recognized TFMoran for “Best Engineering Firm” for 7 consecutive years. TFMoran is honored to receive this award once again, and we look forward to attending the celebration.

This year’s “Rockin’ 50s Party” will be held at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord, NH on Thursday, March 14th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  The event is open to all, and tickets can be bought on-line here.

“Pre-Super Bowl TGIF” Celebration at TFMoran’s Bedford Office

The Bedford office celebrated with a “Pre-Super Bowl LIII TGIF” gathering on February 1, 2019. Members of the Bedford office wore their favorite NE Patriots themed attire to work, from sweatshirts, to sox, to earrings, and met in the lobby at the end of the day to enjoy appetizers and beverages. The delicious appetizers (including chicken wings) were catered by TGI Fridays. Everyone had a great time, discussing plans for the Super Bowl and reminiscing on memories of past Patriot’s Super Bowls. This was the 9th time that the Patriots have been to the Super Bowl in the past 20 years, and would marked Tom Brady’s 6th Super Bowl victory!

Monday morning talk around the water cooler was how the game was a defensive battle but the Patriots managed to pull away in the 4th quarter after a terrific catch by Gronk, a touchdown from Sony Michel, and a field goal by Gostkowski to seal the game.

Congratulations to the Patriots on another Super Bowl victory!

Lunch N Learn at the Bedford Office

Members of the TFMoran Bedford office attended a Lunch N Learn on January 29, 2019. The Lunch N Learn was held in the first floor conference room and was taught by Jason Lenzen from Genest Paving Stones and Walls, who discussed proper maintenance of permeable interlocking concrete pavement. Jason brought Panera Bread sandwiches and salads, which were enjoyed by all in attendance. The list of attendees included Maureen Kelly, Jeremy Belanger, Mike Krzeminski, Jen Porter, Jason Hill, and our marketing intern, John DiFrancesco. The room was filled with chatter as the attendees asked questions about proper maintenance and use of the permeable pavement, and its ability to withstand salt and snow-plows during the winter months. First Aid Training for TFMoran Bedford Staff

Members of the Bedford office took part in a First Aid training course on January 9, 2019. Participants were required to complete an online portion of the class before taking the in-person portion held in the first-floor conference room. The class was taught by Don Poutry from the American Red Cross Associations Training Services. Fred Roach, Tom Lamb, Maureen Kelly, Chris Gagnon, Scott Olsen, Adam Jimenez, Marty Gavin, and Jeremy Belanger were all in attendance. The class taught participants how to treat a wound in an emergency. The first step was to assess the situation, then ask the injured person if it was okay to help. Help would be given only if permitted. Those who completed the course are officially First Aid Certified and can now provide assistance to anyone in need in case of an emergency. TFMoran is planning to host another training session in the near future for other employees who may have missed this one.
