TFMoran former Chief Landscape Architect, Anne Cruess, honored at 2019 GSLA Annual Dinner

Congratulations to Anne Cruess, PLA, ASLA, TFMoran’s former Chief Landscape Architect and a principal, who was honored at the Granite State Landscape Architects (GSLA) Annual Dinner on November 7, 2019 at the Concord Country Club. Randy Knowles, president of GSLA, presented Anne with an award recognizing her contribution to the profession of landscape architecture in the State of New Hampshire and her dedicated service to the American Society of Landscape Architects.  In his presentation to the members of the organization, he spoke of Anne as an individual who has spent her career mentoring emerging professionals and advocating for their profession. Her commitment as a Landscape Architect went beyond her role at TFMoran, Anne was instrumental as an active member of GSLA in the 15-year battle of convincing the House and Senate to pass a licensure bill for Professional Landscape Architects in the State of New Hampshire. A huge effort was made by many of the GSLA members, but Anne’s contributions to the cause, the hours spent meeting with allied professionals, her relentless calls to our politicians in Concord were key in the fight for licensure. The years of hard work and dedication finally came to fruition when the licensure bill was passed on July 24, 2006.  Anne was nominated as the chair of the New Hampshire Board of Landscape Architecture and was an active member of the New Hampshire Joint Board of Licensure and Certification, as well as an officer of the Granite State Landscape Architects and a National Trustee representing New Hampshire in Washington, DC.

TFMoran was one of the first engineering firms in the state to have a landscape architecture division. Anne Cruess led that division and has since officially retired from TFMoran in 2018, after an accomplished career as a landscape architect. Her career started in 1982 after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Design, at the University of Massachusetts. She was responsible for designing notable projects in New Hampshire including Kalivas Park in Manchester; Bedford Village Common in Bedford; Bass Island Park in Manchester; Exeter Waterfront Park in Exeter; Rails to Trails project in Nashua; a new College Green at Saint Anselm’s College;  French-Atwood Marketplace in Bedford; master planning for the Londonderry Ecological Industrial Park in Londonderry; and Abingdon Square in Goffstown.

Members of TFMoran’s Landscape Architecture department, along with Anne’s family were proud be a part of this special evening in support of her extensive career and accomplishments as one of New Hampshire’s first Professional Landscape Architects.

TFMoran helps to Raise Funds for the 2020 Manchester “March for Babies Run”

March of Dimes held a fundraiser Tuesday night, October 29th, at the Manchester Country Club, in effort to raise money for the March for Babies Run, which is planned for May 16th, 2020. TFMoran’s Dylan Cruess is on the organization’s Board of Directors and attended the fundraiser on Tuesday night.  Last year, $135,000 was raised for the March of Dimes Foundation at their annual fundraiser, and this year the foundation hoped to raise $150,000. Local restaurants and vendors were serving up tasty treats for the attending guests, which exceeded 250 people. A live and silent auction was held throughout the night. Dylan and his daughter Cate left smiling with her winning prize of Yogibo characters! Cate had a fun ride home sitting with her giant turquoise Hugibo beanbag, and her Yogibo Mate Fox and Unicorn.

The Manchester March for Babies Run will be taking place n May of 2020, at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, NH. Funds raised will be helping with research, advocacy and programs for the health of all moms and babies.

Dylan Cruess, COO of TFMoran, honored as one of New Hampshire’s Most Influential Business Leaders

Congratulations to TFMoran’s Chief Operating Officer, Dylan Cruess, who was selected as one of New Hampshire’s 200 Most Influential Business Leaders “New Hampshire 200” by New Hampshire Business Review. TFMoran’s principals, along with members of Dylan’s family, attended the New Hampshire 200 Reception, proudly supporting him for this great honor. The celebration was held on October 30, 2019 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester for the 200 prominent individuals featured in the NHBR inaugural publication, “New Hampshire 200”.

New Hampshire Business Review conducted a year-long research initiative led by the editors, who dove into looking for the state’s most influential business leaders in the private sector, across major industries. In choosing the individuals for New Hampshire 200, the editors of the NHBR collected suggestions and nominations from industry contacts throughout the state to determine the individuals who have had the greatest impact on New Hampshire’s economy, business climate and quality of life. The business leaders selected have a real influence within their professions, industries and communities, along with making an important and lasting imprint where they live and work.

All the selected individuals for New Hampshire 200 were asked to complete a questionnaire that would allow readers of the publication to get an inside look at the lives of the state’s most influential business leaders. When asked what was the most important business lesson learned, Dylan stated, “There are about two degrees of separation in the business community. It’s vitally important, even in the most challenging circumstances, that you treat people with respect and fairness. Building and maintaining a great reputation and fostering good relationships are crucial.” His advice to those in the same industry is to make a difference in the communities where you live and work. And, to be involved in both industry-related associations, as well as non-profit organizations as an investment that not only benefits your business, but creates a socially conscious culture in your organization.

Dylan joined TFMoran in 2001 after graduating from Bates College earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He then became an owner and took on the role of Chief Operating Officer when TFMoran was transferred to four senior employees in 2013. TFMoran on 3 Award-Winning Teams – ABC NH/VT 2019 Excellence in Construction Awards

TFMoran’s civil engineers Jeff Kevan and Nick Golon, along with TFMoran structural engineers Eric Picard and Matt Mullen attended the Associated Builders and Contractors NH/VT Chapter on Thursday, October 24, 2019. Members were welcome to join the event at 4:30pm for the cocktail reception, followed by dinner and the Excellence in Construction Awards Presentation in the Four Rivers Ballroom; held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Downtown.

During the Excellence in Construction Awards presentation, the focus was on “Recognizing the outstanding merit shop projects in New England.” ABC is a national construction industry trade association that represents nearly 21,000-chapter members. ABC’s mission is to help members develop people, ensure a strong work ethic, and profitability and advancement of the communities ABC works with.

TFMoran worked alongside Derck & Edson and Eckman Construction to provide surveying and civil engineering services. The Student Center complex remodeling included the transformation of the existing building and built a second-floor function room, café, and bookstore allowing more space for community gatherings.

TFMoran worked with PROCON, the design build construction manager, performing survey, civil/site engineering, landscape design, permitting, and construction administration services.

Land Rover Dealership Redevelopment ~ Bedford, NH
TFMoran worked closely Warrenstreet Architects and Eckman Construction providing services of civil/site/traffic and structural engineering, permitting, and landscape architecture. Land Rover’s new rebuild is one of the first standalone dealership to feature the “ARCH’ concept.

TFMoran Principals attend Saint Anselm College Inaugural Ceremony of the 11th President

TFMoran was represented by principals Dylan Cruess and Jeff Kevan who attended the Inaugural Ceremony of the Eleventh President of Saint Anselm College on October 17, 2019.  Members and guests of the Saint Anselm community joined in the Sullivan Arena that marked the official beginning of the tenure for Joseph A. Favazza, Ph.D., after the departure of former president, Stephen DiSalvo. “I am so happy that Saint Anselm took a chance on me,” stated Dr. Favazza. Throughout his speech he spoke on implementing a new graduate program in criminal justice and hopes that other areas of study; business, healthcare, and politics; will eventually offer graduate programs as well. Dr. Favazza comes to Saint Anselm College from Stonehill College where he had academic leadership roles,since 2005, serving as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs since 2012.

TFMoran has had the remarkable opportunity to work with Saint Anselm College for more than twenty years and is looking forward to working with the new President.  Some of TFMoran’s civil engineering and land surveying projects throughout the campus include land surveying the entire campus; athletic fields; tennis courts; football stadium; ice hockey arena; student housing; a student center complex; a new college green; parking and road improvements; and the new Welcome Center, which is currently under construction.

The campus has come a long way since it was first founded in 1889 when the founding president, Abbot Hilary Pfraengle, OSB purchased the land on a hilltop overlooking the City of Manchester. He oversaw the construction of the college’s first building, which was destroyed by a fire a year later when nearing completion. Fortunately for Saint Anselm College, Abbot Pfraengle was determined and decided to rebuild.  As Saint Anselm College continues to grow they take pride in their community, campus, and curriculum, while continuing their mission to provide a strong education in the liberal arts, grounded in the Benedictine intellectual tradition.

TGIF! Tis’ the season for an Oktoberfest Celebration!

Welcome to a fun late afternoon, end-of-the-week TFM Oktoberfest! On Friday, October 18th the TFMoran Bedford and Portsmouth offices took a little break for a “T.G.I.F” Oktoberfest celebration. As German folk music played throughout the lobbies, co-workers were able to enjoy the warm, fun-filled and energetic atmosphere of Germany’s famous Oktoberfest. Autumn leaves, mums, and pumpkin decor added to the spirit of the fall season. Bedford staff enjoyed The Puritan Backroom’s famous chicken tenders, along with a large assortment of food, treats and seasonal beverages. The Portsmouth office was filled with the scent of mulled cider, along with the delicious traditional Oktoberfest snacks of hot sausages and pretzels…. Yum!!

Thanks to the marketing department for planning this fun in-house event that brought lots of laughs, smiles and good conversations.

Dylan Cruess in NH’s First Graduating Class of Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program

Congratulations to TFMoran’s COO, Dylan Cruess for graduating from the 2019 Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program that took place at NHTI Concord’s Community College, on Thursday, October 10th.  Dylan was one of 37 scholars from nine New Hampshire counties representing a diverse range of industries who was selected for New Hampshire’s inaugural class. Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program partners with the Community College System of New Hampshire and Manchester Community College who hosts the three-month long intensive class. Manchester’s Mayor Joyce Craig and New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen were on-hand to congratulate the members of New Hampshire’s first graduating class.

The Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses is an investment to help entrepreneurs create jobs and provide greater access to education and business support. To date, the program has more than 8,800 business owners that have graduated across all 50 states. Goldman Sachs is strategic in their planning for the program to ensure that the small business owners participating in the program, leave with a new perspective on how to consistently grow their revenues. While attending this course, Dylan received one-on-one expert advice and can apply that to TFMoran’s business plan.

In the 10,000 Small Businesses Program, it has shown that since 2016 the percentage of U.S. Small Businesses grew by 47%. The results have also shown that after 30 months, the percentage of the 10,000 Small Businesses alumni have added jobs in their businesses by 56.5%. Goldman Sachs ensures that all participants are involved and receive the one-on-one time, as well as participating in groups to listen to the advice of others. What alumni can take away is not only working on your business, but working on your business to make it better and how to manage for growth.

TFMoran’s Eric Salovitch breaks personal record in Dover’s Apple Harvest Day 5K

Eric Salovitch represented TFMoran’s Portsmouth office at the Apple Harvest Day 5K Road Race on Saturday, October 5th. The road race had an impressive 570 runners participating this year! Congratulations to Eric who placed 79th overall, and 10th in his division. Eric’s time: 23:53, finally breaking his 24-minute 5K record! The race is part of an all-day family festival in downtown Dover, put on by the Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce. Apple Harvest Day first started back in 1985 and now draws more than 60,000 people and 350 vendors.  People travel from all around to take part in family fun activities, live music, arts and crafts, and plenty of delicious food.

Other festival activities included a row-a-thon competition, where participants must row as many meters as possible within a minute. TFMoran (Eric) held the top spot for the row-a-thon for most of the day, setting the stage at 347 meters – coming very close to a win! He fought until the end, when his friend passed him by 1 meter.

When not participating in festival competitions, Eric and his wife explored Apple Harvest Day while enjoying the outdoors and the healthy lifestyle-theme. Thanks to Eric and his wife for representing TFMoran and staying involved with their community!

TFMoran donates $5,000 to support NeighborWorks® Southern New Hampshire West Side RENEW initiative

TFMoran has donated $5,000 to NeighborWorks® Southern New Hampshire in support of West Side RENEW, an initiative to redevelop and preserve properties in significant decline or in need of capital improvements on Manchester’s West Side.

West Side RENEW complements NeighborWorks® Southern New Hampshire’s overarching community building mission in this area of Manchester, which began in 2006 with the West Granite Revitalization Initiative that resulted in more than $5 million in investment over nine years to increase the home ownership rate, expand the number of owner occupied multi-family properties, and reduce neighborhood density.

The current effort continues NeighborWorks® Southern New Hampshire’s focus on eliminating or redeveloping dilapidated or problem properties in the area and increasing the number of affordable rental units. TFMoran’s contribution will support the redevelopment of 459 Granite Street to create 4 new affordable rental apartments in a currently uninhabitable building.
