2019 “Tour De Manch” Breaks Record with nearly 70 Bike Riders supporting Conservation

Bike enthusiasts, the Manchester Conservation Commission, their volunteers and sponsors celebrated another great success when riders took to the streets of Manchester for this year’s “Tour De Manch”!  Also known as the Manchester Bike Tour, the event is the Commission’s yearly fundraiser to promote their efforts as stewards of Manchester’s natural resources.

This year nearly 70 riders (a Bike Tour record!) participated in the 30 to 40-mile bike tour around the Queen City.  Riders, who began at Eversource Energy Park and looped around and back to the Overlook at Eversource on the Merrimack River were treated to a perfect day of weather with sunny skies and temperatures in the low 60’s, a morning coffee courtesy of Café la Reine, an after ride meal graciously donated by the Puritan Backroom and support throughout the ride by volunteers from Jake’s Bike Shop.  “It was the first year we ran out of chicken tenders,” quoted event Chairperson, and TFMoran Senior Project Manager Nick Golon, PE, “so we know the Tour is growing”.

Riders once again enjoyed sights throughout the City, including Rock Rimmon, the Piscataquog Rail Trail, Nutts Pond Recreation Trail, the Aviation Museum of New Hampshire, Lake Massabesic and the historic Weston Observatory.  With the continued growth of the Tour the Conservation Commission is looking to add new elements next year, and are hopeful the improvements will continue to increase ridership and bring a greater understanding to the need to protect Manchester’s natural resources.

TFMoran participates in UNH Fall Career Fair

Senior Structural Engineer Kyle Roy, PE represented TFMoran at the University of New Hampshire – Durham’s Fall Career Fair on October 1st, 2019. Held at the Whittemore Center Arena, students were able to meet and conversate with potential employers, as well as practice their interviewing skills. With high energy levels in the arena, Kyle was discussed with students what it is like to work at TFMoran and give an insight into the world of engineering! The Career Fair was a smashing success with the participating companies, as well as the potential candidates to fill both our full-time and internship positions.

We would like to thank UNH for hosting the well-organized and lively Career Fair! Best wishes to all students seeking employment opportunity in their field.

TFMoran’s Nick Golon excites students about Civil Engineering at 2019 New Hampshire Construction Career Days

This year marked the 11-year anniversary of New Hampshire’s Construction Career Days, which took place on September 26th & 27th. New Hampshire Construction Career Days (NHCCD) is a two-day event that exposes New Hampshire high school students to possible career paths in both the construction and transportation industries through hands-on exhibits and educational resources.  Labor unions, construction companies, school districts, state agencies, trade and professional organizations collaborate to provide the students with an introduction to various aspects of construction.  Thursday morning hundreds of students were bused into the Hillsborough County 4-H Fairgrounds in New Boston, NH where there were countless displays and activities set up for them to explore. Everything from operating large heavy equipment, to welding, to making a structure out of spaghetti with our friends from the NH Department of Transportation.

This year promoting the American Society of Civil Engineers of NH (ASCE-NH) were four board members Mike Bogue-President, Anabelle Audet-VP, Nick Golon-Treasurer, and Logan Johnson,-Past President. They were volunteers at the event and hosted a table with a water filtration experiment to get students excited about Civil Engineering. A quick hands-on experiment on how to filter water with materials you can gather from your house and yard sparked the students interest and drew a crowd, they all wanted to learn more. Nick Golon, PE, a Senior Project Manager in TFMoran’s Civil Engineering department, showed a group of students the results of their filtration experiment. The experiment consisted of a plastic cup with a hole in the bottom, a piece of paper towel, gravel, sand, and some heavily soiled water. Students constructed their mini filtration device with first the paper towel to hold in the filter media, followed by a layer of sand, and gravel on top. They then poured in the dirty water and competed with other students on who’s water came out cleaner.

Over 1,500 students came walking through the fairgrounds over the two-day event. The ASCE-NH volunteers explained to the students that creating clean water is just one of the many, many responsibilities that Civil Engineers have. We serve the community by designing safe travel ways, sturdy structures, means to drain the storm water from our roads and communities, and maintaining all these essential pieces to support society! The most important… is that everything a civil engineer designs, needs to be constructed. Construction is the most vital part of the puzzle and the industry is always in need of bright young talent to construct our projects.

With the increasing age of our labor force in New Hampshire, this event is extremely important to get students excited about a career path in construction. Not every young adult is interested in attending a 4-year college after high school, and this event promotes an array of options.

A huge thank you to all who participated in the planning this event, the schools that bused students from miles away from all over New Hampshire, and all the exhibitors and sponsors. ASCE-NH was just one small table out of a whole fairground filled of volunteers promoting the future workforce of tomorrow to lead a career in construction!

TFMoran showcases engineering projects at the 2019 Tri-City Expo

TFMoran Engineers attended the Tri-City Expo on September 26th at the Center of NH Expo Center in Manchester, NH. The TFMoran booth featured 10 engineering projects recently completed or are currently under construction located in the areas of Concord, Manchester and Nashua, NH. TFMoran is proud to be a part of these Tri-City communities, and has been participating in New Hampshire’s largest Business to Business Expo for nearly 30 years. The event attracts over 1,200 attendees and has approximately 200 exhibitors representing businesses and non-profit organizations in the community showcasing their services and/or products.  Thanks to the Tri-City Chambers of Commerce for putting on another great event!

Fulcrum Golf Classic – Supporting NH Food Bank

TFMoran’s Dylan Cruess and Dan Blais, along with Kevin LaPointe from NHDOT and Tom Mullen from Poole Professional Insurance, participated in the 3rd Annual Fulcrum Charity Golf Classic on Tuesday September 17, 2019.  This charity event was in support of New Hampshire Food Bank. Fulcrum Associates of Amherst, NH takes pride in giving back to their community and have other companies join in with them. In the past two years Fulcrum has been able to provide over 40,000 meals for food-challenged families and residents in New Hampshire.

The event was held at the beautiful Wentworth By The Sea Country Club in Rye, NH. The sun was shining and all were able to take in the beautiful ocean views along the course. Throughout the day, golfers had the opportunity to win raffles and prizes, and enjoy lunch and dinner at the Country Club. The TFMoran Team did not come in first, but being able to help with providing thousand of meals to families and children across New Hampshire is certainly the top honor!

TFMoran provides civil/structural design for parking complex to serve Millyard growth

While it may seem unusual to compare a construction project to a dance, progress on the newly completed Southern New Hampshire University Milllyard Parking Garage was a delicate balance necessitating carefully calculated timing throughout the process.

“It was a very compact site,” says Bob Duval, president of TFMoran — which provided survey, civil engineering, structural engineering, site permitting and landscape architectural services. “There was little to no adjacent land available for staging and temporary construction operations. The site had to be broken up into a chess board of construction phasing.” Due to strict space limitations on-site, the garage containing approximately 1,700 parking spaces, abutting South Commercial Street, the Merrimack River and the Langer Place Mill in the south end of the Millyard, was approached with a careful eye on the next move, every step of the way. TFMoran’s Thomas Lamb President of SENH

Thomas Lamb, PE, one of TFMoran’s Senior Structural Engineers, has recently accepted the position of President of Structural Engineers of New Hampshire (SENH). He has been a SENH member since 2004 and held the office of secretary last year. Additionally, Mr. Lamb will be attending the 2019 NCSEA Structural Summit in Anaheim, California in November representing SENH as Alternate Delegate.

Mr. Lamb has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of New Hampshire and has over 15 years of experience in the engineering and construction industries. His diverse skillset includes experience in structural design, analysis, and construction administration of residential, public, and commercial buildings throughout New England. Mr. Lamb is a licensed Professional Engineer in the states of NH, MA, ME, CT, NJ, VA, and TX.

TFM Hosts 23rd Annual Greater Manchester Chamber Networking Summer BBQ

TFMoran proudly hosted the Greater Manchester Chamber’s  August “Network It Night” BBQ event for the 23rd consecutive year on Thursday, August 22nd. Approximately 150 chamber members, guests, TFMoran staff, and their families enjoyed a beautiful summer evening with a barbecue on the front lawn of the Bedford office. “Take a break from this Economic BOOM!” was this year’s theme, encouraging guests to relax, wear their flip flops, grab something to eat and enjoy the evening. As a party-favor, folks took home a little TFM logo Flip Flop container of mints, printed by Corporate Images of NH.  Attendees could view some of TFMoran’s recent engineering projects under construction that were on display. The tent provided by Special Events of New England, was decorated with colorful balloons, lanterns and flowered flip flops to add to the festivities.

The Flying Butcher of Amherst, did a great job grilling steak & turkey tips, burgers and dogs, while The Inside Scoop gals treated us to peppermint stick and butter crunch ice cream. Dylan Cruess, TFMoran’s COO, gave a brief talk describing a few of the professional services TFMoran offers, and thanking the staff for coordinating the event. Door prizes were given out, including 2 TFM polo shirts, and gift cards from both The Flying Butcher and The Inside Scoop that went to some lucky winners.

Thank you to the Greater Manchester Chamber board and members for joining us for such a fun event. And, a big thank you to all the TFM staff who helped to make this another successful event!

TFMoran Retail and Hospitality Project Featured in High-Profile Monthly

High-Profile‘s August issue highlighted retail and hospitality, which includes TFMoran’s work on the highly anticipated hotel and restaurant destination, Tru by Hilton and T-Bones Restaurant. The hotel and restaurant destination is off Interstate 93 in Concord, NH on the site of the former Days Inn. TFMoran is providing civil and traffic engineering, land surveying, landscape architecture and construction administration services for the project. Project team members include Market Square Architects, Fulcrum Associates and Opechee Construction.

TFMoran Underway on Tru by Hilton and T-Bones Restaurant

Concord, NH -Construction is well-underway at the site of the former Days Inn on South Main Street in Concord, NH, where TFMoran is working closely with Duprey Hospitality and Great NH Restaurants.

The site will be the location of a Tru by Hilton hotel for Duprey Hospitality, as well as T-Bones for Great NH Restaurants. When completed, both hotel and restaurant are expected to be a popular destination for NH tourists and locals because of their convenient location off Interstate 93.

Construction has begun for the Tru by Hilton, a four-story hotel, with 85 guest rooms and plenty of functional public space. Tru is described as a brand-new hotel experience from Hilton that’s vibrant, affordable and young-at-heart.  The building features a 2,000 s/f open concept lobby with multiple areas for guests to work, eat and lounge. The size of guest rooms has been minimized with an efficient design including open closets, rolling desks, and plenty of storage and power outlets. TFMoran has teamed with Opechee Construction and is providing civil and traffic engineering, land surveying, landscape architecture and construction administration services. The hotel is expected to open in the Spring of 2020.

The T-Bones restaurant will provide a high-quality dining experience and will be the largest stand-alone T-Bones location for Great NH Restaurants. The restaurant is 9,420 s/f which includes a 260-seat indoor dining room and 35-seat outdoor patio. TFMoran is supporting the efforts of the project architect, Market Square Architects of Portsmouth and builder, Fulcrum Associates of Amherst, where they are providing civil, traffic and structural engineering, land surveying, landscape architecture and construction administration services for the project. A groundbreaking ceremony was recently held at the site to officially welcome the restaurant which is set to open in the winter of 2020.
