High-Profile’s April Issue Features 2 TFMoran Projects

High-Profile Monthly’s April issue focuses on Multi-residential and Restoration and Renovation projects; featuring two TFM projects; The Village at Banfield Woods and Highrock Church.

TFMoran is working alongside Green and Company Building Corp. to bring highly desirable community, The Village at Banfield Woods, to Portsmouth NH. The new 22-unit condominium neighborhood is surrounded by woodland covering over 44 acres. TFMoran is providing local and state permitting, surveying, civil engineering, planning, landscape architecture, and construction administration services for the neighborhood. The neighborhood is currently under construction, with some completed homes available and on the market.

TFMoran Structural Engineers (TFM) and Maugel Architects contributed to a collaborative design effort to repurpose a former industrial building into a worship and community center for Highrock Church. Located in Arlington, MA, the existing building (c.1900) originally built for manufacturing purposes, was most recently used for auto repair and auto parts warehousing. The project includes 19,700 sf of worship and support spaces with construction slated to begin this spring.

TFMoran participates in NHCIBOR COVID-19 WebinarDylan Cruess, TFMoran’s COO was asked to be one of the panelists on NH Commercial Investment Board of Realtors first ever webinar, led by NHCIBOR President Christian Stallkamp. The webinar entitled “The Commercial Real Estate Transaction – post COVID-19” features six NHCIBOR members and industry leaders on how firms have pivoted during this challenging time.  Dylan’s discussion on what the engineering environment looks like now, in comparison to the pre-covid days, begins about 38 minutes into the webinar. Congratulations to Jeremy Belanger (pictured left) named NH’s Young Engineer of the Year!

TFMoran’s Senior Project Engineer Jeremy Belanger, PE has been selected by a jury of his peers from New Hampshire’s Joint Engineering Societies as the 2020 New Hampshire Young Engineer of the Year.  This distinguished award was presented to Jeremy on February 19th at the 69th Annual Engineers’ Week Awards Banquet & Exhibition at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord, NH.  The American Society of Civil Engineers – New Hampshire Section (ASCE-NH) submitted his nomination not only for his involvement in ASCE-NH, but for his outstanding work ethic, his integrity as a young professional, his dedication and enthusiasm for the Civil Engineering profession, and his volunteerism in giving back to the community.

Jeremy started his engineering career with the family business working for his father, Jacques Belanger, LLS as part of a survey field crew before working as a summer intern and part-time employee with Gomez and Sullivan while obtaining his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of New Hampshire (UNH).  Upon his graduation in 2010, he obtained his M.S. in Civil Engineering/Water Resources from UNH and continued his career with Gomez and Sullivan as a Water Resources Engineer conducting bathymetric surveys and habitat restorations projects, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Flood Insurance Studies (FIS), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) re-licensing studies, hydroelectric generation analysis, hydraulic dam break analysis and inundation mapping, and dam removal feasibility and design.

The desire to be closer to his family and familiar surroundings brought Jeremy back to New Hampshire in 2015 when he accepted a position as a civil project engineer with TFMoran, Inc. In his nearly five years with TFMoran Jeremy has made himself indispensable with his tireless work ethic, professionalism and enthusiasm for each assignment. Jeremy’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, as he was recently promoted to Senior Project Engineer, making him the youngest to achieve such a title in TFMoran’s 50+ years of operation. At TFMoran he is responsible for the engineering design and permitting of land development projects and has experience in site planning, drainage design, sewer design, and local and state permitting for residential, commercial, industrial, municipal and energy projects.

Jeremy is an active member of the community and gives back in many ways. After moving back to New Hampshire, he began volunteering for UpReach Therapeutic Equestrian Center. UpReach serves individuals with a wide range of physical, emotional, and psychological disabilities through year-round, equine-assisted activities and therapies.  Jeremy is a regular at the ASCE-NH Younger Member volunteer night at New Horizons Homeless Shelter and Food Pantry, and volunteers at various TFMoran organized activities such as In-Town Manchester’s Adopt-A-Block event.

Jeremy lives with his husband Eric, their dogs Cooper and Callie and cat Meaty in Dunbarton, NH.  Jeremy is an avid outdoorsman and traveler and in his free time can be found snowboarding, hiking or otherwise engulfed in a good book.

TFMoran’s Nick Golon helps ASCE-NH raise $15,000 for NH Student Scholarships

The 2nd Annual Engineers Day Conference took place at the Puritan Conference Center in Manchester, NH, providing professional development hours and networking opportunities for licensed professionals while giving back to the next generation of engineers by raising $15,000 for the ASCE-NH Scholarship Fund!

Beyond providing educational opportunities to New Hampshire youth, attendees were treated to a program consisting of Resilient & Innovative Construction Practices, NH-Based Research Driving Progress Throughout the Granite State, and Principles of Effective Leadership, High Performance Teams, and Competent Communication.  Each session was led by skilled speakers handpicked by the ASCE-NH Board of Directors who proved to be informative and thought provoking.

The ASCE-NH Scholarship fund includes two types of scholarship; the Fred L. Douglas High School Scholarship and the S. Russell Stearns Scholarship.  The Fred L. Douglas High School Scholarship was created in 2000 and named in honor of ASCE-NH Life member and the long time Chair of the Scholarship Fund Fred Douglas.  Its purpose is to aid New Hampshire high school students in their pursuit of an engineering education, with the hope to increase the awareness of the civil engineering profession for high school students in New Hampshire.  New Hampshire High School Students who are accepted to any ABET-Accredited engineering program are eligible for this scholarship.  S. Russell Stearns (1915-1997) was a professor of engineering at Dartmouth College for a record-setting 54 years and was known for his soft-spoken, nurturing grandfatherly nature. With the amazing support of his wife, Lee, Professor Stearns was a leader within the New Hampshire engineering community. This scholarship is an annual award for ASCE Student Members who are enrolled in an ABET-accredited civil engineering program.  The number of recipients and value of each scholarship varies depending on the quantity and character of applications received each year.

The deadline for applications is April 30, 2020 and scholarships will be presented to the recipients at the May ASCE-NH membership meeting.

TFMoran Retail and Hospitality Project Featured in High-Profile Monthly

High-Profile‘s August issue highlighted retail and hospitality, which includes TFMoran’s work on the highly anticipated hotel and restaurant destination, Tru by Hilton and T-Bones Restaurant. The hotel and restaurant destination is off Interstate 93 in Concord, NH on the site of the former Days Inn. TFMoran is providing civil and traffic engineering, land surveying, landscape architecture and construction administration services for the project. TFMoran Underway on Tru by Hilton and T-Bones Restaurant

Concord, NH -Construction is well-underway at the site of the former Days Inn on South Main Street in Concord, NH, where TFMoran is working closely with Duprey Hospitality and Great NH Restaurants.

The site will be the location of a Tru by Hilton hotel for Duprey Hospitality, as well as T-Bones for Great NH Restaurants. When completed, both hotel and restaurant are expected to be a popular destination for NH tourists and locals because of their convenient location off Interstate 93.

Construction has begun for the Tru by Hilton, a four-story hotel, with 85 guest rooms and plenty of functional public space. Tru is described as a brand-new hotel experience from Hilton that’s vibrant, affordable and young-at-heart.  The building features a 2,000 s/f open concept lobby with multiple areas for guests to work, eat and lounge. The size of guest rooms has been minimized with an efficient design including open closets, rolling desks, and plenty of storage and power outlets. TFMoran has teamed with Opechee Construction and is providing civil and traffic engineering, land surveying, landscape architecture and construction administration services. The hotel is expected to open in the Spring of 2020.

The T-Bones restaurant will provide a high-quality dining experience and will be the largest stand-alone T-Bones location for Great NH Restaurants. The restaurant is 9,420 s/f which includes a 260-seat indoor dining room and 35-seat outdoor patio. TFMoran is supporting the efforts of the project architect, Market Square Architects of Portsmouth and builder, Fulcrum Associates of Amherst, where they are providing civil, traffic and structural engineering, land surveying, landscape architecture and construction administration services for the project. A groundbreaking ceremony was recently held at the site to officially welcome the restaurant which is set to open in the winter of 2020.

TFMoran’s Eversource Project featured in the Union Leader

TFMoran is providing civil and traffic engineering, land surveying and landscape architecture services for two Eversource facilities located in Nashua, New Hampshire. TFMoran Senior Project Manager Nick Golon, PE was quoted in the Union Leader about the planned upgrades.

The project includes the possible relocating of the millyard substation located on the Pine street extension, to a city-owned site adjacent to the current location. The Nashua City Planning Board recently approved of the plan, but is also awaiting the approval of the Board of Aldermen in order to move forward. The millyard substation has been in use since 1949, and could use updates as the facility is becoming increasingly unreliable. If all goes to plan, construction is expected to start in 2020 following a ground breaking ceremony to be held in January. TFMoran’s Nick Golon explained the proposed substation will be about 14,000 s/f and include a new access road and utility poles, with its completion anticipated later next year.

Eversource also proposed renovations for the current Work Center located on Amherst Street, which has been approved as well. The project includes renovations of the existing structure, and the construction of a new 14,500 s/f garage in the rear of the building. Nick stated the Work Center was built in the late 1950s, and is an antiquated structure that needs updating.

Eversource to upgrade two of its facilities in Nashua

NASHUA — Eversource Energy is preparing for two major projects aimed to improve its aging infrastructure in the city.

The Nashua City Planning Board recently approved the two projects — one at the utility company’s substation in the millyard and the other at its existing work center on Amherst Street.

Eversource Energy is hoping to relocate its millyard substation on the Pine Street Extension to a city-owned parcel that abuts the current structure. Although planning officials have approved the site plan, the Board of Aldermen must also approve the proposal in order for the project to move forward.

“Some of the equipment in the substation that we call millyard, off Pine Street Extension, has been in service since 1949 and is becoming increasingly unreliable,” said Alan Rowe, Eversource project manager.

After speaking with representatives from the city, an identical parcel of land on an adjacent parcel was identified as a potential land swap, according to Rowe.

This land swap, if given the green light from aldermen, will allow Eversource to relocate some of its lines, while also creating a continuous, city-owned parcel that could be used for future development, he said.

Nick Golon, an engineer with TFMoran, said the new power substation will be about 14,000 square feet, and will include a new access road, utility poles and a chain link fence.

Construction is expected to start in 2020, and be completed by the end of the year. The existing substation will then be demolished, he explained.

“We are starting preliminary engineering,” said Rowe, adding Eversource would like to break ground on the project in January.

Eversource Energy has also submitted a second site plan for its existing work center at 370 Amherst St. Earlier this month, the planning board approved the project, which includes renovations to the current structure and a new, 14,500 square feet garage.

Golon said Eversource’s Nashua Area Work Center was built in the late 1950s, and is an antiquated structure that needs updating.

The project includes renovating the existing garage into office space, and then constructing a new garage in the rear of the parcel where line trucks will be stored, he said.

Although Eversource is not looking to add any employees at the site, Golon said the plan will provide a more strategic location for workers and the storage of vehicles.

“The expansion and renovation will reuse the existing building while adding a similar architectural appearance for the addition,” Linda McGhee, deputy planning manager, wrote in a staff report to the Planning Board.

Celebrating the renovation of historic Concord Theatre – now the Bank of New Hampshire Stage

A celebration was held on Saturday, July 13th for the completion of the newly renovated historic Concord Theatre- now the Bank of New Hampshire Stage. TFMoran’s Sr. Project Manager, Nick Golon, PE and his family attended the picnic dinner, and 90’s theme dance party courtesy of Duprey Hospitality, to celebrate the stage’s completion. The Bank of New Hampshire Stage is located on South Main Street in Concord, and is now owned by The Capitol Center for the Arts, located just down the road.

TFMoran structural and civil engineers worked closely with Dennis Mires P.A. The Architects and Milestone Engineering and Construction to provide civil and structural engineering services for the project.

Originally a bakery started in the mid-1800’s, The Concord Theatre building was converted to a movie theatre which ran from the 1930s to the mid 1990’s. The property also housed various small businesses more recently. However, the main movie theatre has been vacant for many years. The renovation project will create a flexible event venue for the Capitol Center for the Arts and a box office.

The existing building was in need of repair and rehabilitation. Consequently, the project includes significant structural upgrades and repairs to the building framing. Outdated floor, roof and wall framing will be reinforced or replaced. Additionally, an interior balcony and new cantilevered marquee will be added.

A small addition was added on the building’s south side for a new stair and elevator. The attractive addition was built in conjunction with functional and aesthetic improvements to the building’s site. New pavement, plantings, seating and a loading area were part of the project.
