TFMoran’s Bedford Office Celebrated Christmas with a Festive Party

TFMoran’s Bedford office hosted its annual Family Christmas Party on Friday December 14th. The office was decorated with beautiful gold and blue ornaments and poinsettias in honor of TFMoran’s 50th Anniversary. The centerpiece was a 12-foot-tall Christmas tree, draped in beautiful gold ribbon with a bow at the top. The sparkling lights and ornaments, and tasteful selection of Christmas music, created a perfect Christmas Party environment.

The party started promptly at 4 o’clock, when appetizers were being served in the main lobby. Everyone enjoyed the variety of appetizers, provided by Tidewater Catering. The meatballs were a big hit, as were the chicken quesadilla trumpets. All the food provided was delicious, and everyone at the party left with a full stomach. Most of the leftovers went home with John DiFrancesco, the marketing assistant intern, so he and his roommates at Southern New Hampshire University could enjoy them during Sunday’s Patriots game.

There was a great assortment of desserts for anyone looking for something sweet. The desserts included cookies, brownies, and other small bite-sized sweets. There was wine and beer for the adults to drink, and soda and juices for everyone to enjoy. There was also eggnog for those feeling extra festive. Attendees meandered around the party, talking with one another and sharing funny memories and stories. There were many smiling faces and the room was filled with the sound of laughter and storytelling. There was a kid’s craft station where the children could create snowflake, Christmas tree, reindeer, and Santa ornaments. The kids seemed to enjoy the crafts and made some very sparkly and creative ornaments to take home.

New Project Featured in the New Hampshire Union Leader

The Union Leader took notice of TFMoran’s work at Market and Main Street, the Macy’s redevelopment, in a recent news article. The Plaza has seen a lot of growth since Macy’s closed its doors in the fall of 2015. Construction crews have been hard at work on Trader Joe’s and The Friendly Toast and have completed the construction on a parking structure for the new additions. There will also be a new 4 story parking garage, to accompany a movie theater and an REI, mentioned in the article. The parking garage will be partially visible from I-293, however much of the building will be hidden by the REI and movie theater. The structure was designed with nature in mind, with architectural features including “…staggered horizontal details that are intended to interpret the ripples seen on a river.” Red Heat Tavern, Pressed Cafe, and Charles Schwab have also announced that they have signed leases. Other additions to the former Macy’s site are expected to include Athleta, Cycle Bar, European Wax Center, and MidiCi. BEDFORD – The architectural design for a four-story parking garage at the Market and Man project has been approved by town planners, and an undisclosed cinema chain is in the process of being finalized for the development. “We do have a cinema with a letter of intent right now, so we are working on that portion of the project,” Laura Homich, project architect, told the Bedford Planning Board this week. On Monday, the board approved the architectural design for a four story, open parking garage that will be attached to the rear of the cinema building.

 

The 179,000-square-foot parking garage will house nearly 470 vehicles in the new mixed-use development being constructed at the former Macy’s site at 125 South River Road.

 

“we have minimized the structure to the extent that we can … there will be some detail and character to it,” Homich said of the parking garage.

 

Attached to the precast concrete parking garage will be a 2000-square-foot REI store and a 90000-square-foot cinema, restaurant and retail space, according to Homich. The building is one of several that will be constructed on the parcel. Two buildings are already in the process of being constructed, including trader joes and the friendly toast, as well as a smaller parking deck.

 

“Being suburban, rural community, we don’t see a lot of parking garages,’ said Becky Herbert, planning director for the town. “it is a large structure, and it will be viewed from (Interstate) 293 until the office building is constructed.

 

In a letter to Herbert, Homich explains that the garage will include staggered horizontal detail that is intended to interpret the reflective ripples seen on a river, which was the inspiration for the façade of the marquee building. She said the majority of the garage will be covered by the cinema and retail building, although most of the top level will be visible as well as other areas of the structure. The fourth level of the garage will not have a roof, and some screening panels will be strategically placed throughout the perimeter of the structure, according to the design plans.

“You might catch the roofline of the car, but the concrete structure comes up above the bumper on all levels,” said Chris Rice, an engineer with T.F. Moran.

 

To date, Pressed Café, Charles Schwab, Trader Joes, The Friendly Toast, Rei, and the Red Heat Tavern all announced that they have signed leases for the new Market and Main development. Other business intended for the site include Athleta, Cycle Bar, European Wax, and MidiCi. No new announcements have been made regarding the additional tenants that will be occupying Market and Main, a 355,708-square-foot complex.

 

Although an official groundbreaking is being planned, the date has not yet been publicized. In September 22016, the Planning Board granted the conditional site plan for Encore Retail and its mixed-use development that will include a cinema, hotel, medical office, restaurants, and retail space.

Supporting the Economic Development and Infrastructure Summit

Dylan Cruess represented TFMoran at the Economic Development and Infrastructure Summit on Wednesday November 14th, 2018. The event, put on by the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, was hosted at the Manchester Country Club and was presented by TD Bank. Mr. Cruess was one of the panel members on the Board of Directors.  The keynote speaker, Jeff Speck, who is a city planner and bestselling author, spoke about how economic development is affected by the walkability of a city. The event also featured a presentation about Driving Economic and Community Development through Grassroots Leadership, and an update on the major projects taking place in the Greater Manchester area and how the projects will impact the local infrastructure. Snacks were provided to those who attended, as well as coffee. Sponsors for the event included Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, the New Hampshire Institute of Art, and TFMoran.

TFM Millyard Parking Garage Project featured on Front Page of the NH Union Leader

Exciting News! On the front page of the November 27, 2018 Greater Manchester Edition of the New Hampshire Union Leader is a construction photo of the new parking garage in downtown Manchester’s Millyard district, a TFMoran Civil/Site Engineering and Structural Engineering project. TFMoran also provided permitting and landscape architecture services for this 6-story, 1,700 space parking facility. This new precast concrete structure, located at the corner of South Commercial Street and Line Drive, will provide parking for Southern New Hampshire University’s online program and administrative offices housed in the adjacent Langer Place mill. TFMoran Celebrates 50 Years at the Annual Harvest Lunch

TFMoran celebrated the holiday season with our Annual Harvest Lunch on November 21, 2018. The Company also celebrated our 50th year in business. TFMoran staff from the Bedford and Portsmouth offices met at the Bedford Village Inn to give thanks for another great year and enjoy some good food and beverages with coworkers. Prior to the event, company photos to commemorate the 50th year, were taken by Studio One photographer, John Gauvin.

The venue was beautiful in the Great Hall, as the Bedford Village Inn recently decorated for the holiday season. Floral centerpieces created by TFMoran’s Maryanne Murray, with help from Susan Bartley, added to the harvest-theme décor. Upon arrival, TFM staff socialized while enjoying a variety of healthy appetizers and holiday beverages from the bar. Then, all were treated to the delicious main course of salad, a lovely squash soup, steak, chicken, and roasted vegetables. Following the meal, a white raspberry-filled 50th Anniversary cake made by Frederick’s Pastries, was served to the enjoyment of all.

TFMoran president Bob Duval addressed the staff by congratulating the company and its employees on the 50 years in business and for another great year. Bob took a moment to recognize those who had been with TFMoran for more than 10 years (some over 30 years) and thanked them for their service. TFMoran’s COO, Dylan Cruess, then spoke to the staff about upcoming benefit news, such as health insurance, the 401k program and other benefits. In appreciation of everyone’s dedication to the Company, holiday bonuses were handed out to all by the five TFMoran principals.

A special thanks to the Bedford Village Inn for hosting the event and creating such a lovely atmosphere for this special occasion. It was a great send off to Thanksgiving holiday weekend, as we gave thanks for our clients, our TFM team, friends and family.

CPR Training at TFMoran

Members of the Bedford TFMoran team participated in a CPR certification course on November 14, 2018. Participants met in the first-floor conference room, where the training was held. Many of the attendees had been certified in the past and were taking the course as a refresher course. The course covered CPR trainings for all ages including adults, children, and infants. The certification class was taught by Robert Martin, who works with Exeter Hospital. The class was broken into two parts. Participants watched informational videos during the first portion of the class, and during the second part were able to practice the techniques on training mannequins.  The informational videos, provided by the American Heart Association, explained how to determine if a person needs CPR, the number of breaths and compressions necessary to properly perform CPR, how to properly perform these compressions and breaths, and how to use an AED, or Automated External Defibrillator. The Bedford office installed an AED in May through a New Hampshire Department of Safety program, which offers a discount and training for participants. There was also a portion of the training dedicated to helping someone who is choking and properly performing the Heimlich maneuver. Of course, we hope that all in attendance never need to use the techniques learned today, but we are glad that our team members are educated and would be able to provide assistants in an emergency.

TFMoran at NH Municipal Expo Nov 14-15, 2018

TFMoran is participating in the 77th Annual New Hampshire Municipal Conference and Expo on November 14th and 15th of 2018. The event, hosted by the New Hampshire Municipal Association, is taking place at the DoubleTree by Hilton in downtown Manchester (formerly the Radisson Hotel). The keynote speaker is Rebecca Rule, who is a well-known author and entertainer and currently hosts “Our Hometown” on NHPTV. She has entertained many audiences with her humorous tales of life in New Hampshire. The theme of this year’s conference is “Sharing Ideas: Shaping the Future.”

The Expo gives businesses an opportunity to present their ideas and projects to a group of their colleagues. Booths are laid out in a grid system, with street names and numbers posted to help attendees find the booths that interest them. TFMoran’s booth is number 310 on Oak Street. Our booth displays some of the most recent municipal projects, such as the renovations and additions for the Newmarket Junior/High School and Elementary School, and the new Warner Fire and Rescue Station, both currently under construction. TFMoran’s engineers are on-hand to answer any questions from the many visitors stopping by to check out our municipal projects from all around the state.

The two-day conference offers many informative sessions, with topics such as Cybercrime and Fraud, Land Use Law Updates, and Effective Uses of Mediation. As always, we are happy to attend the expo and look forward to seeing familiar faces and discussing our municipal projects.

Raising the Banner with Manchester Proud

TFMoran’s Dylan Cruess attended the Manchester Proud Banner Raising last Tuesday. Manchester Proud is an organization of community members from the Manchester area who want to build a better public-school system in Manchester, New Hampshire. They reach out to community members for thoughts and opinions on the current school system and changes that should be made to improve Manchester’s public schools. They plan to host more than 100 listening sessions to hear local opinions and discuss possible changes to the public-school system. On Tuesday November 13, 2018 Manchester Proud held an event to give thanks to supporters, volunteers, and community partners. The event took place at Veterans Park and was attended by many local business owners, school representatives, and the Mayor of Manchester, Joyce Craig. We wish Manchester Proud success in its future endeavors.

TFMoran sponsors SNHU Penmen for Patriots 5k to help NH Veterans

TFMoran once again showed support for the Southern New Hampshire University “Penmen for Patriots 5k” by sponsoring the road race. This annual event, held on November 3, 2018, supported Veterans Count, a program of Easterseals which “provide resources and services to veterans, service members and their families. Easterseals Military and Veterans Services, in conjunction with Veterans Count, developed a one-of-a-kind program which has a proven track record of helping service members and their families with a wide range of family, personal and financial needs.”

The rainy weather wasn’t enough to discourage supporters from running the race which took place on the beautiful SNHU Manchester/Hooksett campus. TFMoran’s Jenn Clark, Maureen Kelly, Shaun Vando, Jeff Tate, Dylan Cruess along with his daughter Cate, all participated to show their support for a great cause.

Other supporting companies included Able Ebenezer Brewing Company, who provided a free beer to all participants over the age of 21, for a well-deserved post-5k beverage. American Flatbread Company provided pizza; Coca Cola of Northern New England provided nonalcoholic refreshments, while Stonyfield Organic brought yogurt to the event to help runners fuel up before the race. The first 400 registrants also received complimentary long sleeve shirts, as a memento. Thanks to all the local sponsors for making this a fun-filled, successful event for such a worthy program.

TFMoran’s COO, Dylan Cruess’ daughter Cate, captured the eye of Thomas Roy, a Union Leader photographer, at the Governor Chris Sununu victory party on election night. The caption read “A smiling Gov. Chris Sununu shows a photo of his cat to 5-year-old Catherine Cruess of Bedford, who attended Sununu’s election night party at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Manchester with her dad, Dylan.” The photo appeared on the front page of the Wednesday, November 7, 2018 edition under the large headline “Midterms draw big crowds in NH”. The story “Sununu
captures second term” was written by Dave Solomon of the New Hampshire Union Leader.
