TFM Team Places Second at 18th Annual Champagne Putt
The SEE Science Center, located in the millyard district of Manchester, New Hampshire, hosted their 18th Annual Fred Kfoury Jr Memorial Champagne Putt on March 7th, 2019. The mini-golf tournament featured 18 science-themed holes, including one two-story hole. Participants enjoyed a fun-filled evening with plenty of food, beverages, contests, raffles and a silent auction, all for a great cause to benefit the programs of the SEE Science Center.
TFMoran’s fantastic foursome Dan Blais, Eric Salavitch, Tom Burns and Marty Gavin (pictured above left to right) tied for second in the tournament with a score of 33. That’s pretty darn good considering they were competing with over 30 teams! Congratulations!

TFMoran Basketball Team Celebrates A Win
TFMoran showed support for local athletics by once again sponsoring a recreational basketball team in Bedford. TFMoran’s Tom Lamb’s son plays for the team. The team of 3rd and 4th grade boys won their game against the LAER Beauchemin Realty team, 16-12 today. An article about the game was published in the Bedford Bulletin, highlighting the key points of the game. LBR made a strong comeback after being down 10, but TFMoran was able to pull away and seal the victory. To read the full article, read the text below:
At one point late in the second half, LBR tied the score at 12-12, erasing a 10-point halftime hole. However, TFMoran pulled away down the stretch to win. Camden Santos was huge off the backboards and played solid defense for LBR, while teammate Jackson Jodoin scored and hurt TFMoran by forcing turnovers. Pierce Connolly, Drew Benjamin, Owen Sprague, Myles Lamb, and Jack Bergeron led a balanced attack for the winners.

Supporting the Economic Development and Infrastructure Summit
Dylan Cruess represented TFMoran at the Economic Development and Infrastructure Summit on Wednesday November 14th, 2018. The event, put on by the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, was hosted at the Manchester Country Club and was presented by TD Bank. Mr. Cruess was one of the panel members on the Board of Directors. The keynote speaker, Jeff Speck, who is a city planner and bestselling author, spoke about how economic development is affected by the walkability of a city. The event also featured a presentation about Driving Economic and Community Development through Grassroots Leadership, and an update on the major projects taking place in the Greater Manchester area and how the projects will impact the local infrastructure. Snacks were provided to those who attended, as well as coffee. Sponsors for the event included Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, the New Hampshire Institute of Art, and TFMoran.

CPR Training at TFMoran
Members of the Bedford TFMoran team participated in a CPR certification course on November 14, 2018. Participants met in the first-floor conference room, where the training was held. Many of the attendees had been certified in the past and were taking the course as a refresher course. The course covered CPR trainings for all ages including adults, children, and infants. The certification class was taught by Robert Martin, who works with Exeter Hospital. The class was broken into two parts. Participants watched informational videos during the first portion of the class, and during the second part were able to practice the techniques on training mannequins. The informational videos, provided by the American Heart Association, explained how to determine if a person needs CPR, the number of breaths and compressions necessary to properly perform CPR, how to properly perform these compressions and breaths, and how to use an AED, or Automated External Defibrillator. The Bedford office installed an AED in May through a New Hampshire Department of Safety program, which offers a discount and training for participants. There was also a portion of the training dedicated to helping someone who is choking and properly performing the Heimlich maneuver. Of course, we hope that all in attendance never need to use the techniques learned today, but we are glad that our team members are educated and would be able to provide assistants in an emergency.

Raising the Banner with Manchester Proud
TFMoran’s Dylan Cruess attended the Manchester Proud Banner Raising last Tuesday. Manchester Proud is an organization of community members from the Manchester area who want to build a better public-school system in Manchester, New Hampshire. They reach out to community members for thoughts and opinions on the current school system and changes that should be made to improve Manchester’s public schools. They plan to host more than 100 listening sessions to hear local opinions and discuss possible changes to the public-school system. On Tuesday November 13, 2018 Manchester Proud held an event to give thanks to supporters, volunteers, and community partners. The event took place at Veterans Park and was attended by many local business owners, school representatives, and the Mayor of Manchester, Joyce Craig. We wish Manchester Proud success in its future endeavors.

BEDFORD, NH The year 2018 marks 50 years of service for TFMoran, Inc., a leading consultant to the land development industry, offering civil, structural, and traffic engineering, land surveying, landscape architecture, construction support, and environmental permitting services. Originally a local firm based in southern New Hampshire, TFMoran’s practice area now extends throughout the state and into Mass., Maine, Vermont, N.Y., Penn., and N.J.
Since its inception in 1968, TFMoran has been a leader in bringing innovative land planning and smart development practices into the marketplace. According to the firm’s current president, Robert Duval, “TFMoran has been designing sustainable sites long before it became a buzzword. By their very nature, good designs reduce impacts to the natural environment, harmonize with their surroundings, make more efficient use of infrastructure, thereby saving our clients hard costs, as well as simplifying the approval process.”
The current ownership team has been in place since 2013, including: President and chief engineer, Robert Duval, PE; chief operating officer, Dylan Cruess; and senior vice presidents Jeff Kevan, Paul Sbacchi, PE, and Corey Colwell, LLS, all long-term employees with decades of hands-on experience.
Cruess said, “The shared goal of the new ownership team from the outset has been to build on the strong corporate brand that TFMoran has created over the past fifty years, always seeking innovative ways to deliver best-in-class client service. We must be doing something right, because in 2016 we were named Business NH’s Business of the Year in the Real Estate, Construction and Engineering category, and we have also earned a statewide ‘Best of Business’ award for the last six years in a row.”
Consistent with its focus on sustainable development, Duval points out that TFMoran has built a strong reputation for successful redevelopment of underutilized urban and industrial land.
“We have played an integral role in many of the region’s most significant redevelopment projects, among them the SNHU Arena and the N.H. Fisher Cats Stadium in Manchester’s urban core; redevelopment of the Bedford Mall, Wayfarer Hotel, and former Macy’s properties in Bedford; the GE Aviation Plant expansion in Hooksett, conversion of several mill buildings in Lowell and Lawrence to residential/ commercial use, and a new 1,700-car parking garage at the south end of Manchester’s historic millyard, currently under construction. Just these few projects alone provide hundreds of millions of dollars of new tax base and revenues to the local community,” said Duval.
In 2014, TFMoran acquired MSC Civil Engineers and Surveyors, a well-established civil engineering and surveying firm in Portsmouth, NH. Subsequently, in 2015, TFMoran expanded its structural engineering department by acquisition of Steffensen Engineering Associates with a solid 30-year history of their own. The TFMoran team now comprises over 65 individuals, including licensed land surveyors, civil and structural engineers, landscape architects, wetland scientists, LEED professionals, and erosion control (CPESC) specialists.
Jeff Kevan, manager of the civil engineering group, points out that one of TFMoran’s primary strengths is taking on large projects with aggressive schedules. “Our team has demonstrated time and again the ability to meet challenging deadlines through teamwork and an innovative approach to the unique needs and opportunities for each project. Our reputation is built on our track record, and our record is evidence of the pride we take in what we do.”
“We have experienced strong growth over the past few years,” said Paul Sbacchi, chief structural engineer. “But growth in itself is not our goal; we plan our growth to better serve our clients. Our clients have their own tight schedules to meet, and we want to be there to help them succeed.”
Cruess is quick to point out that TFMoran is also a great place to work. “We have numerous employees with young families, and so we encourage a ‘family-focused’ culture, with accommodating work schedules, with the opportunity to work from home when need arises.”
Another pillar of TFMoran’s culture is employee safety. Cruess said, “We have made employee safety a top priority. We have a strong safety committee, with a comprehensive and up-to-date Safety Handbook, and field employees receive OSHA 10 Construction Site Safety Training.”
TFMoran strongly encourages its employees to become involved outside the workplace in professional and community organizations. “An involved person is a caring person, and a caring person fits in well at TFMoran,” said Cruess. “We strive to provide all employees the flexibility they need to serve their communities.”
Many TFMoran employees focus their outside energies in state and local government, serving on advisory committees, planning boards, zoning boards, and as elected officials. In this way, TFMoran can use its experience to help shape the regulatory environment to protect the environment and foster economic prosperity.
How would you summarize the TFMoran philosophy? According to Duval, “We want to be leaders and innovators in our industry, and active, responsible members of our communities. Congratulations to Business Excellence Winner, Dylan Cruess!
TFMoran’s Chief Operating Officer Dylan Cruess was honored to receive the 2017 Business Excellence Award in the Real Estate and Construction category from NH Business Review. The awards dinner reception, presented by Citizen’s Bank, was held on November 1st at the Center of NH, Radisson Hotel in downtown Manchester. Accompanying Dylan was his family, Robert, Anne and Galen Cruess; TFM Marketing Coordinator Susan Bartley; TFM Marketing Assistant Kelsie Gagner; and TFM Chief of Survey Jim O’Neil and his wife Diane.
The event recognizes the imagination, industriousness, innovation and achievements of business owners and operators. The awards given out fall into eight categories including: Excellence in Business & Professional Services, Excellence in Consumer Services, Excellence in Financial Services, Excellence in Health Care, Excellence in Manufacturing, Excellence in non-profit, Excellence in Real Estate / Construction, Excellence in Technology, and Business Excellence Hall of Fame.

Dylan may have learned the ropes from his engineer father, but it is he and the new leadership team at TFMoran that have steered the company through a period of unprecedented growth. Since ownership of the company was transferred in 2013 to four senior employees, including Dylan, TFMoran has more than doubled its annual revenue, with continued double-digit growth. Because of Dylan’s background and upbringing, he grasps engineering, project management and surveying more than a typical operations person would. And that has enabled him to continue the original vision of TFMoran while strategically growing the company to new levels.
Having grown up among the TFMoran team, Dylan is well aware that it is the teamwork of the employees that is essential to the company’s success. That’s why Dylan has worked with the leadership team to increase the company match for employees’ 401K plans. And TFMoran’s positive culture is evidenced by its low turnover rate. Employees enjoy working at TFMoran because they are appreciated and encouraged to continue their education to become the best they can be. Tri-City Expo – Always a Great Community Event!
Many of TFMoran’s recent engineering projects were on display at the Annual 2017 Tri-City Expo in downtown Manchester, NH. The Expo was held on Thursday, September 28th from 3pm to 7pm at the Radisson Hotel, Center of NH. The Tri-City (Manchester, Concord and Nashua) Expo is a Chamber of Commerce event of networking for local businesses and consumers. TFMoran’s Engineers were on hand at Booth #712 to answer any questions about our recent featured projects.
New elements to the Tri-City Expo this year included a main stage, entertainment, tastings and libations, and a unique environment for both B-2-B and B-2-C businesses, making it an outstanding opportunity to network and do business – all under one roof! The Tri-City Expo has always been a step ahead, with exhibitors introducing cutting edge products and services.

NH Home Builders Association Golf Tournament
TFMoran’s very own Dan Blais and the rest of his team came in First Place at the 19th Annual Charity Golf Tournament for the NH Home Builders Association . The event was held at the Passaconaway Country Club in Litchfield, New Hampshire. The team members included Dan Blais from TFM, Doug Blais from Southern New Hampshire University, Kevin Sullivan from Quality Insulation and Mike DiBlasi from Ten20 Strategic Communications.
The golf tournament takes place every year in order to raise money for Marguerite’s Place, a local, non-profit organization that helps homeless women and children in crisis. Established in 1990, Marguerite’s Place gives local women physical, educational, and social support, allowing women to positively move forward with their lives, creating a better future. This transitional housing organization helps set women up with homes, jobs, childcare services other important necessities they may not have access to. Their philosophy is “We have always believed that true charity does not consist in doing for others, but in helping others do for themselves.” Marguerite’s Place has changed the lives of thousands of women and children and we thank them for all that they do!
