Two TFMoran Projects Receive Plan NH Merit Award of Excellence

TFMoran is pleased to have been part of two award-winning project teams recognized by Plan NH for excellence in planning, design, and development across New Hampshire.

One of the honored projects was Apartments @ 249 Main in Nashua, where TFMoran provided civil engineering, land surveying, and landscape architecture services. Working alongside project owner and developer NeighborWorks Southern New Hampshire, architect John S. Jordan Design, and general contractor Hutter Construction, the team transformed a long-vacant downtown parcel into a vibrant mixed-income residential community.

The six-story development features 45 residential units, including 19 one-bedroom and 26 two-bedroom apartments. Designed to support smart-growth principles, the project revitalizes an underutilized site in the heart of downtown Nashua while providing much-needed housing within walking distance of local businesses, services, and public transportation. The development includes an outdoor courtyard, community room, management office, laundry facilities, and elevator access to all floors. Through long-term affordability restrictions, the project will continue to provide housing opportunities for generations to come.

TFMoran was also proud to contribute structural engineering services for the Rockingham County Municipal Complex in Brentwood. This 110,000-square-foot facility was designed by Warrenstreet Architects and constructed by Harvey Construction, with support from project partners including ReVision Energy, SRW Environmental Consulting, Coughlin Environmental Services, and Nobis Group.

Developed to consolidate multiple county departments into a single modern campus, the facility houses the Sheriff’s Department and Emergency Dispatch Headquarters, Department of Community Corrections, County Attorney’s Office, County Commissioners’ Offices, and the Registry of Deeds. The complex also includes a 131-seat multi-purpose auditorium, secure operational spaces, and infrastructure supporting a multi-megawatt solar energy system. TFMoran’s structural design incorporated steel framing, reinforced masonry shear walls, cold-formed metal framing, and special moment frames to support the building’s operational, security, and architectural requirements.

The Plan NH Merit Awards of Excellence recognize projects that demonstrate outstanding planning, design, collaboration, and community impact. The awards celebrate developments that enhance New Hampshire’s built environment through smart growth, livability, environmental stewardship, and innovative partnerships. This past Thursday, June 18th, Civil Department Manager, Nick Golon and Marketing Coordinator, Nicole Arsenualt attended the award night at Arts Alley, in Concord, NH to receive the awards on behalf of the firm.

Founded in 1989, Plan NH is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering excellence in planning, design, and development throughout New Hampshire. Through education, collaboration, and advocacy, the organization works to create vibrant, sustainable communities that balance the needs of people, place, and the environment.

Collectively, NH Gives raised more than $3.75 million during the 24-hour fundraising event, demonstrating the incredible generosity and community spirit of supporters across New Hampshire.

TFMoran is Falling for Connections with Plan NH

TFMoran was pleased to host and sponsor Plan NH’s annual Falling for Connections networking event, held last Thursday, November 13th at our Bedford office. The evening brought together more than 75 professionals from across New Hampshire’s planning, design, construction, and development communities for a lively night of conversation, collaboration, and connection.

Guests enjoyed an impressive spread of appetizers provided by Tidewater Catering of Manchester, featuring an array of small bites, passed hors d’oeuvres. A full selection of beverages and refreshments helped round out the warm, welcoming atmosphere along with and fall-themed cupcakes for the night’s sweet treat.

In addition to our support, the event was also sponsored by NH Saves, whose ongoing commitment to energy-efficiency initiatives plays an important role in helping communities and organizations across the state make informed, sustainable improvements.

TFMoran was thrilled with the strong turnout and the positive feedback received throughout the night. Events like Falling for Connections provide valuable opportunities to strengthen relationships, share ideas, and support the professional networks that help drive thoughtful planning and development in New Hampshire.

Built to Connect: Highlights from the 2025 Plan NH Fall Conference

This past Wednesday, September 17, professionals from across New Hampshire gathered in Concord for the Plan NH Fall Conference, centered around the theme: Built to Last: Reducing Impact, Maximizing Performance. On the surface, this may sound like a technical conversation about sustainable materials or energy-efficient buildings, the event delved much deeper. Through five engaging speakers, the conference explored the human, environmental, and community dimensions of designing spaces that truly stand the test of time.

Nancy E. Smith – CEO, GrowSmart Maine

Nancy Smith opened the day with a powerful reminder of how the pandemic reshaped our sense of place. She spoke about the loss of “third places”—parks, libraries, and gathering spots—and how essential they are to mental health and community life. Through storytelling, she challenged us to design spaces that foster human connection and trust. In a unique moment, she asked attendees to write haikus about connection, sparking spontaneous conversations and reminding us that design is ultimately about people.

Emma Sabella – Senior Waste Reduction Consultant, CET

Emma Sabella shared practical, inspiring solutions for reducing construction and demolition (C&D) waste. Representing the Center for EcoTechnology, she outlined how deconstruction—carefully dismantling buildings to salvage materials—can save money, support reuse outlets, and divert tons of waste from landfills. Emma emphasized that CET’s technical assistance is free, thanks to USDA funding, and shared real-world examples of adaptive reuse and smart material recovery. Her message: sustainability starts with planning, and there’s value in what we might otherwise throw away.

David Webb – Commercial Sales Lead, ReVision Energy

David Webb brought the conversation into the world of clean energy and building performance. Representing ReVision Energy, he highlighted practical ways to integrate renewable systems into commercial and residential projects. He also addressed barriers communities face—such as access to incentives and understanding evolving technologies. His session emphasized that reducing environmental impact isn’t just about new construction, but also retrofitting existing buildings with systems that are efficient, affordable, and scalable.

Matt O’Keefe – Energy Efficiency Coordinator, Unitil/NH Saves

Matt O’Keefe offered insight into how local utilities and programs like NH Saves are helping to improve energy performance across New Hampshire. He spoke about accessible energy efficiency measures for homes and businesses, and how smart design choices today can lead to lasting savings. By breaking down technical programs into clear, actionable steps, Matt helped demystify energy upgrades and showed how they can align with both sustainability goals and local economic development.

Joe Knapik – Technical Director, RPF Environmental

Joe Knapik provided a sobering but necessary perspective on worker health and safety in construction and environmental projects. With decades of experience in industrial hygiene, Joe reminded attendees that sustainability must include the people doing the work. He raised awareness about mental health challenges in the trades and emphasized the importance of managing hazardous materials safely. His call to action was clear: protect the workers, not just the materials. True sustainability is both environmental and human.

The 2025 Plan NH Fall Conference was a reminder that strong communities are built on connection—between people, places, and purpose. Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter Receives Plan NH 2024 Merit Award of Excellence

TFMoran is honored to be a part of the award-winning project team for the renovation and rehabilitation of the Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter. TFMoran provided structural engineering services for the renovation project.

The team also included Warrenstreet Architects and Bonnette, Page & Stone Corp.

Plan NH has a mission to “foster excellence in planning, design, and development of New Hampshire’s built environment” and a vision of vibrant communities across the state.

Each year, Plan NH holds its annual Merit Award Program to honor exemplary built environment projects that have a positive impact on the community. All nominations are reviewed by a jury of engineers, planners, architects, and others. The jury selects projects demonstrating social responsibility, Smart Growth principles, and creative approaches to collaboration and cooperation. 

Congratulations to the other 2024 recipients of the Plan NH Merit Award of Excellence: Brick Market, Capitol Shopping Center, Mill Girl Stair Improvements Project, and The Livery.

TFMoran Sponsors Plan NH’s 33rd Annual Golf Classic

Plan NH held its 33rd annual Golf Classic and Fundraiser on October 5 at Beaver Meadow Golf Club in Concord. TFMoran sponsored the breakfast portion of the event, followed by a shotgun start for the 18-hole scramble. A delicious lunch was provided with awards, and raffles held afterward.

Each year, Plan NH holds its annual Merit Award Program to honor exemplary built environment projects that have a positive impact on the community. TFMoran has been honored to be a part of the winning project team for the Bank of NH Stage, which received a 2020 Merit Award of Excellence.
